Meet the trainers
Gareth Talamini – General Manager
Gareth is an experienced control systems engineer with over 13 years experience in design and commissioning, both within Australia and overseas. He has worked on major projects including the Sepon Copper mine in Laos, shipyards in Malaysia, sugar mills and refineries in Vietnam, the Australian Magnesium Corporation pilot plant and others. Gareth leads the Competency Training team as General Manager and also delivers courses in Hazardous Areas and General Electrical Training.
Tom Darrington - Lead EEHA Trainer
Tom has a passion for training. With over forty years experience as an electrician, electrical supervisor and I/E construction manager in a range of industries, including mining and petrochemical, he has amassed a wealth of practical knowledge, particularly in the field of hazardous areas that he has been passing on in his role as a trainer since 2000.
Tom is a licensed H-class electrical inspector in Victoria and keeps up his practical experience by performing hazardous area installation audits and consulting on design and installation projects and developing training material. But training is where he derives the most satisfaction from his work, a fact which is obvious to anyone who attends one of his courses.
Paul Brooke - EEHA Trainer
Paul has well over thirty years experience as an electrical worker and designer. He presents our hazardous area and general electrical training. He is an accredited auditor of hazardous area electrical installations in Queensland and provides advice to industry on all aspects of hazardous area compliance, from area classification to design and installation. His knowledge of the practical problems faced by installers and maintainers is invaluable in his hands-on presentations.
David Richards - Operations Manager
David possesses a wealth of experience in both the education sector and the electrical trades, making him an indispensable member of the team. He delivers our general electrical and EEHA awareness training, and assists with course and training aid development and RTO compliance activities when not training.
Ian MacKenzie
Ian is a highly qualified trainer with almost 30 years experience. He developed his high level of electrical, electronic systems and instrumentation skills in the UK Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy and progressed to highly technical engineering, maintenance and supervisory roles for FPSOs, marine vessels, subsea and offshore oil and gas facilities. Ian delivers HV switching and hazardous area courses.
Ken Kavanagh - Lead HV Trainer
With a diverse range of experience across the mining and petrochemical industries in his thirty plus year career, Ken brings an enormous depth of knowledge to our HV training courses. Prior to the joining of CT Ken spent a decade in charge of maintenance, expansion and finally, the decommissioning of the HV electrical distribution system at Huntsman Chemical in Melbourne. With approximately a hundred acres of industrial plant to keep running at the facility, Ken has familiarity with a wide range of equipment and techniques, which he now passes on in his training courses. Grant Collingwood
Grant is a skilled hazardous area inspector and electrical fitter mechanic, who has developed his knowledge working in the marine shipping industry and oil and gas construction industries throughout Australia.
John Ryan
John has extensive experience in the hydrocarbons industry particularly in the areas of plants and pipelines. For the last 7 years John worked as an Electrical Equipment and Hazardous Area inspector in Moomba, South Australia, as well as surrounding oil and gas satellites. John also worked in Karratha, Western Australia and thoroughly enjoys delivering Competency Training courses mainly in Hazardous Areas.
